In 2019 we began a project to plant a small wood at the back of the school playing field. Since then, we have planted approximately 500 trees and 700 hedge saplings, all native to English woods and hedges. We have also begun the erection of a dead head, made out of posts recycled from school tree work and dead material from the surrounding hedges. In 2019 all the pupils had a chance to plant a tree, and since then Year 5 have worked hard to get the project completed. The aim of planting our own wood is to encourage our children to appreciate the importance of nature and steer them towards better environmental choices in their lives. I would like to thank all the children and parents who have helped with the planting and the Gilbert family who brought a machine to install the posts. I would particularly like to thank the Woodland Trust for supplying the saplings, bamboo stakes and tree guards. We hope to have an official opening soon.
