Year 2

Welcome to year 2

“Year 2 is so much fun. It is really interesting and I have learned so many facts.” – Ralphie

Learning in Year 2 follows the Primary Curriculum. Daily phonic lessons follow the Little Wandle programme and reading is taught through whole class learning and supported through the use of Collins Big Cat texts. Children practice and develop a range of skills in English to become more fluent and confident writers and they build upon previous knowledge in maths, using a wide range of resources to explain the concept they are learning about.

“I love Year 2 because you learn about so many fun things like The Great Fire of London and how to make puppets.  My stories are so much more interesting now and I can do fractions and join my handwriting.” Elsie.

Year 2 is full of fascinating facts, exciting experiments and lots of lots of learning. We travel with Buddy the Bee visiting different countries in the seven continents of the world and we explore a little closer to home, looking at human and physical features of our local area. In science, we look at how the environment changes with each season and observe how plants grow in different conditions. During our life cycles topic, we watch with ‘eggcitement’ how baby chicks hatch out of their eggs. In DT, we design and create puppets using different materials and plan and make healthy pizzas. The Great Fire of London is one of our favourite topics where we learn all about life in London in 1666 and why the fire spread so rapidly. At the end of the unit, we demonstrate what we have learnt through a class assembly to parents.

These photographs capture just some of what we get up to in Year 2
