We are delighted to announce that we, Welwyn St Mary’s, have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2017/18 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Our sporting achievements this year include:
Hockey, table tennis and gymnastics. We have qualified through to the county final in all these sports. We also excel at cross country running where we enter 3 competitions per year with continued success. Our girls cricket team also qualified through to the country final this year; playing alongside girls from St Michael’s Woolmer Green. Our hockey team also took part in a workshop where they got to meet and play with the England hockey captain Alex Danson.
Our TAP events have been a huge success and links with Monk’s Walk secondary school have also meant that more young people than ever before have taken part in school sporting activities.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including our school sports’ leaders, house captains and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
A special thanks to:
Mrs Tucker, Mr O’Neill, Mr Williams and all the staff at Welwyn St Mary’s who work as a team to make our school as active as possible.
We look forward to applying once again in 2019!
